Fun with Fight Sticks 🕹ī¸

I modded a Hori RAP4 Kai with fresh new artwork and a plexi glass cover. I also ordered some new red shiny buttons to replace the left-most six (coming soon).

Plus, the kitties helped out!

Reading Run-Down, Continued 📖

I only listed the books I actually read from cover-to-cover. Chances are, if a book was rated 1 or 2 stars, I only made it 50 pages in before dropping it.

October saw me really getting into the Horror genre, thanks in large part to the engaging characters of Clive Barker’s stories, and the itch to watch several the movies based on them.

Some quick thoughts on those:

  • Hellraiser / The Hellbound Heart – Plot-wise, the movie made a little more sense, and the visuals were absolutely stunning for what was apparently a low-budget adaptation. But the acting was so hammy, and honestly, I would have recast everyone but Frank, as well as dropped the pointless role of Kirsty’s boyfriend. The thing that irks me the most is how “Pinhead” takes center stage in the marketing and sequels, despite the story being chiefly about the greed and temptation that rips this family apart, not some S&M-inspired demon monsters.
  • Candyman / The Forbidden – Both book and movie version had their good parts, but the movie has a more familiar context to Americans, a vastly more satisfying ending, and some pretty solid acting.
  • Books of Blood, Hulu Original Movie – Anticipating the release of this movie is what drew me to reading the anthology in the first place, only to find out all but one of the stories in the film were originals, and had nothing to do with the books. Doesn’t matter, the books are fantastic in and of themselves, so it was worth the disappointment of a mediocre film.

Dropped Enterprise: The First Adventure by Vonda McIntyre 📖

About 1/3 of the way through, lots of details were being filled in of the bridge crew back stories. Unfortunately, the plot was just too slow to give it any more effort.

Finished Books of Blood: Volume One by Clive Barker 📖

I read this in anticipation of the Hulu movie, only to find out that the Hulu movie wasn’t based on any of the stories from the series. No matter, this was a great read! My favorite story was In the Hills, the Cities.
